At Night has released his first album that was never actually released originally. In fact, the album was lost for 2 years. He has done so in the form of a free download. The album, “Old World”, is available for download at The Collective, or CLLCT. The Collective is a site that features several artists that release their music for free to download. Among some of the artists that release their music for free at The Collective include Dustin & The Furniture, Tinyfolk, Super Famicom, Secret Owl Society, and Shelby Sifers. Check it out, download some free music.

Also, At Night has planned an upcoming split with Hello, Shark to be released later in 2008. Keep an eye out for that to be released. You can hear two songs from that upcoming split at At Night’s myspace.

So I got caught up with real life and didn’t have the time to update this the way i wanted to.  So, here’s my attempt to make up for lost time and hopefully try to keep up with this more regularly, which I’d like to.  The following is a summation of all the ish that’s interested me since the last post.

Mount Eerie releases two new albums and continues to tour:

- The first album is titled “Lost Wisdom”. The album features Julie Doiron and Fred Squire, who Elverum toured with around the time of recording the album.

- The second album is the vinyl version of “Dawn”. The album includes songs Elverum wrote during a secluded stay in a Norway cabin in 2002/2003. Unlike the previous few albums, “Dawn” features just singing and guitar. Later in 2008, another version of this album will be available, a CD and book, further giving us a look into is 2002/2003 cabin stay.

Chad Vickery releases “Sleeptalker” album:

- Artist Chad Vickery has released a cassette titled “Sleeptalker”, which is a work that includes recordings of himself talking in his sleep, a collection of several months edited to highlight the actual talking, with accompanying music also done by Chad. The art and packaging is done by Peter J. Brant of Ben and Bruno. It is a fantastic piece and is limited to 50 copies. I’m not sure if these are still available at the time of this post, but I highly recommend picking up a copy. Three new Sweet Now Records releases:

- Dustin & The Furniture has released two new albums. The first album is “Water Lilies”. The other album is titled “No Living In The Living Room”, which includes a book and is primarily about Dustin’s feelings about the problems with civilization.

- Super Famicom has released an album titled “Wandering Floret Pt. 5″. This is the 5th release of an 8 part series, with each part being released on a different label.

Well, that’s all I can think of off the top of my head. I’m sure there’s something I missed. If I missed something completely amazing that I need to know about, go ahead and comment. I love new things to listen to and know about.

After just finishing up a two month tour of the US with David Jaberi, Cole lets me in on some exciting news about what he’s got in store. He has quite a few album plans, all with a nice twist to them. Here are the ideas, or themes, of the albums Cole is planning on releasing:

• Bruce Springsteen / Kate Bush / Rap and R&B covers album
• Improvised punk loop tape for Gnar Tapes
• “Cell Phone Memo Crooner Songs” album
• Possible tour release featuring several recorded shows from his current spring tour with David Jaberi

 
Also, Cole has some touring plans for the near future. One tour looks to be an Empire State only tour and Cole might be accompanied by Jason Anderson in September. Another is a possible month long festival with a show one day a week in the California and Portland area that will feature bands playing improvised sets and on the spot songs, which would also feature David Jaberi. There is also a release on the way that is a split tape with David Jaberi, so pay attention for that.

I talked to David Jaberi today to find out what the future holds for his music and projects. It turns out he’s got some excellent stuff coming up that he’d like to do and put out there for everyone. Among these projects include more touring (he just finished up a lengthy spring tour with Cole Milner around almost the entire US), a few releases, and some time spent recording with friends. Here are some of the things he has in the works:

• Recording his friend’s solo project titled Guiding Water along with releasing a split 7″ of David Jaberi and Guiding Water.
• Another US tour with Nevin Kight.
• A possible month long festival with a show one day a week in the California and Portland area that will feature bands playing improvised sets and on the spot songs.
• Possible short tour of the California area with Guiding Water and maybe At Night.
• Release of a Ramones cover album.
• Possible tour release featuring several recorded shows from his current spring tour with Cole Milner.

 
As you can see, David has some big plans and a lot on his plate. These are all tentative ideas, but be on the lookout for any or all of them in the near future. After a three year break with very little new material released, Phil Elverum of The Microphones and Mount Eerie is coming back big with a lot of expected releases for 2008 (and 2009). His last full length album, “No Flashlight: Songs of the Fulfilled Night”, came out in 2005 under Mount Eerie, and has remained his newest full length since. That is about to change. According to his label’s website, P.W. Elverum & Sun, here’s what we can expect in the next year:
 

• Dawn – This will be a book of very intense journal writing from time spent in a cabin in northern Norway. It comes with a CD of all the songs written there, played once and for all on just guitar and singing. Something like 17 songs. 144 pages. Some drawings. Some pictures. This will be published later in 2008 by Buenaventura Press. In the fall, this will be released on vinyl without the book.
• Fog Movies Live – DVD bootleg of Mt. Eerie at What The Heck Fest 2007 set to boring fog movies.
• Black Wooden EP – A release as part of Southern Records’ Latitudes series. Different from the already released “Black Wooden Ceiling Opening.”
• Mt. Eerie split single with NO KIDS – Just released recently and is available for purchase here. Pick one up today, it’s limited to 500 copies!
• Lost Wisdom – LP or CD with Julie Doiron and Fred Squire due out in September of 2008.
• Wind’s Poem – Colossal sounding new album due in spring of 2009.
• Song Island’s Vol. 2 – Mt. Eerie Singles compilation due much later.

Vollmar has finished putting together a new album. It has not been yet announced when this album will be released, but keep on the lookout for it. The album will be titled “onflashingred”.

There will also be a new 7″ released by L’Animaux Tryst that features a set of Vollmar songs as a part of a subscription series. Subscriptions can be purchased yearly, or seasonally (in sets of 3). Vollmars seasonal set will be included in the Summer 2008 season, along with Elephant Micah.

Available now for pre-order is a reissue of the out of print “Avery”, “The Shower”, and “When Love Love Love” 3″ cd-r’s. These were a set of 3 mini cd-r’s featuring free-noise, unattached to his other works as a songwriter. It is being released as a 12″ LP by Third Uncle Records, but by emailing Vollmar you can reserve a copy before it officially goes up.
